Blast From The Past
Sonus Faber is not new to the arena of subwoofer design and engineering. The first subwoofer project, the Gravis FB100, was launched back in 1986, later followed Cremona M subwoofers. Today, with the new Gravis collection, Sonus Faber returns to its roots, incorporating cutting-edge technology while maintaining its identity of natural sound and quality Italian hand-craftsmanship.
The Completion Of The Pinnacle
Gravis I and II are the smaller subwoofers of the Gravis Collection. These speakers have been designed to be easily integrated into every living environment and ideally matched with almost every kind of audio and audio/video system. In addition, Gravis I and II are the perfect match for their loudspeaker siblings: the Sonus Faber Sonetto Collection.
For both Gravis I and Gravis II the preamp stage is a highly advanced design specifically developed for this application; it is responsible for the texture, speed, and attack of these two “small” subwoofer models.
Moreover, Gravis I and Gravis II’s rear panel features a complete connectivity solution that allows for both perfectly blended musical sub bass and powerful, percussive, home theater bass. A wide sound field reproduction is the result whenever this subwoofer unit is matched with a loudspeaker system. Its sound is rock-solid, fast, and has startling depth.
The separate volume controls for High Level and line/LFE allow perfect calibration for music and home theater so there is no need to make any adjustments between sessions in dual-use systems. In fact, while the High-Level Connection allows seamless blend of the sub with the main speakers in music reproduction, the LFE input can be used along with it to provide an immersive home theater experience simultaneously.
For over three decades, driver design has remained one of the most important factors of Sonus Faber’s loudspeaker systems. In fact, 100% of the company’s current product line features drivers that are designed and developed at its laboratories in Vicenza, Italy. From this rich knowledge pool emerges the care and attention required to design and produce relatively small driver units that provide truly low bass and are able to withstand high power and output for long periods of time.
Both Sonus faber Gravis I and II use quality stamped steel-frame speaker units: the Gravis I features an 8” Ultra Long Throw down-firing speaker unit and the Gravis II uses a 10” Ultra Long Throw down-firing speaker unit and a 10” aluminum alloy diaphragm passive infra-bass radiator.
